Lubomyr Melnyk on his 'continuous music' technique (BBC)
One of the world’s fastest pianists has been in Britain to promote what he calls “continuous music”, a style of playing that creates waves of notes that at some points reaches 19 notes per second.
Ukrainian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk says the sound is the true transcendant voice of the piano.
However, he says acquiring the skill to play at such speed requires you to master your body in the way of a kung fu master.
David Sillito went to discuss ‘kung fu’ piano with Lubomyr Melnrk.

the 78 project
The 78 Project is a documentary and recording journey inspired by Alan Lomax and his quest to capture music where it lived throughout the early 20th century. Our project brings the sprit of his work into the present as we pair breakthrough musicians with the songs and the fascinating recording technology of the past. With just one microphone, one authentic 1930′s PRESTO direct-to-disc recorder, and one blank lacquer disk, musicians are given the opportunity to make a recording anywhere they choose. What we have found is that the film, music and feelings that result defy space and time, living music inspired by ghosts.
